Barb wanted some new photos to play around with. Here are a couple of the dozen or so that I liked:

I like the first one very much... I did you manage to get such a light, and such a neutral background?
The other one is very good, too (and your friend is quite pretty, actually!), but her eyes are a bit blurry. My father always told me that the most important point in a portrait was the eyes : shoot them sharply, and the portrait will look alive. Shoot them blurry, and... well, it can look artsy! :)
But this blurry stuff is only a detail you can see on the high resolution version of the pic, so it's not really a big deal.
Thanks for those pics, makes me wanna hold my D50 and run into Paris streets to shoot some stuff! Well, I'm gonna do this actually, in Paris Catacombs... brrrr!
The first one was just taken in front of a window using natural light. I used an almost wide open 50mm f1.7. The background was just a wall and isn't neutral at all if in focus, but sufficiently out of focus to just about disappear in this photo.
You're right about the second one. It is slightly backfocused. I liked the composition, lighting and expression though so I posted it anyway. It's fine for small file sizes or prints, but not good for anything larger.
